As you can see, I burned down a section of the structure and have begun to “dress” or decorate it with streamers and tags. Things will change considerably as I reach the end of this painting.
Generally it would be a good idea to do this BEFORE painting, but I didn’t think of it till later. This is step one for establishing a backdrop.
The new painting is nearing completion. Next will be the 3D element which is mostly prepared and ready to be fixed to the canvas.
This one is coming along fairly well. Lots to do yet…
This structure is based on a section of the former Grassypoint Bridge which linked Superior, WI with Duluth, MN. Its orientation and size relative to the 48″x48″ canvas is based on areal photos of bombed Cologne Germany at the end of WWII, specifically the ruined train station near the cathedral. Ultimately, destruction and the rebuilding process is the main concern of this project.
Still a lot of work ahead, but lots of progress made these past two days.
I continue my interest in specific structures set against the painted surface. Here we have the pilings of what will eventually be a bridge.
Lots of progress made, but work continues on the current project (tentatively titled Solanus), with lots of refining ahead.
The basics are complete and the structure as well as the painted portion of the work are moving along quickly.
