the pressures brought to bear upon the Earth
Begun in early 2010, this most recent series - the pressures brought to bear upon the earth - signals new directions in my work, both perceptually and conceptually. While intended for hanging on a wall, they are to be viewed from many angles and vantage points; the canvas serves as less a picture-plane for paint than a surface onto which materials – including paint - are fixed. They are part sculpture, part painting.
Visually, this work is derived from imagined aerial perspectives of industrial ruins. Conceptually, they derive from my associations between man's activity on earth and violence.
